I was commissioned to design the logo more than a year before its completion. During our first meeting, the client shared a simple request:
“Please take the time to experience the relationship between the house and the garden through the changing seasons.”
That experience became an essential part of the design process. From spending time beside the wood-burning stove in winter to stepping outside amid the vibrant greenery of spring, even our meetings on the rain-soaked wooden deck shaped my understanding of the place and its philosophy.
The logo symbolizes the relationship between the house, the garden, and the people who live within them. Guided by the insights gained through interviews and the project's concept sheets, the design first and foremost communicates that the company builds homes, while also expressing the distinctive lifestyle and worldview those homes embody.
Another important requirement was that the logo should work beautifully on merchandise such as keychains and other branded items. This led to a simple, memorable form that is both highly recognizable and versatile across a wide range of applications.
