「じょうさん」から「さんじょ」へ
カフェの名称「San-Jyo（さんじょ）」は、 「さん（常［三］島・太陽）」と、徳島の親しみを込めた接尾語「じょ・（JOY）」とそれぞれが独立した意味と響きを持っている。
「じょうさん」の文字の流れを反転させ、「さんじょ」へと再構築したネーミングのプロセスそのものを追体験させる装置として、パーツが自由に動き、入れ替わる新しい視点を持つシンボルへと昇華させた。
既成概念にとらわれない可変するシンボル
「三」の文字が3つの独立したエレメントで構成されている点に着目し、これらを固定された1つの形状ではなく、独立した3つのエレメントの集合体と考え、環境やメディアに合わせて有機的に変化する「ダイナミック・アイデンティティ（＝可変するシンボル）」として設計。
決まった形を持たず、絶えず変化し続けるその姿は、既成概念に縛られない自由な発想と創造性の象徴。 未知の領域へと変化・適応しながら、挑戦し続け、新たな世界を開拓していくフロンティア精神を表現した。
From “Josan” to “San-Jyo”
The café’s name, San-Jyo, brings together two distinct meanings and sounds: “San”, evoking the Japanese character 三 (three), the name Josanjima, and the sun; and “Jyo,” a playful suffix inspired by JOY, with a familiar, local feel in Tokushima.
The name was born by reversing and reconstructing the flow of the Japanese name “Josan” into “San-Jyo.” We transformed this naming process itself into a visual experience—a symbol made up of movable elements that can freely shift and rearrange, offering a fresh perspective on identity.
A Dynamic Identity Beyond Convention
The design focuses on the character 「三」, which consists of three independent strokes. Rather than treating them as a fixed, unified form, we interpreted them as three autonomous elements that can come together in different configurations.
This became a dynamic identity—a flexible symbol that organically changes according to its environment and medium.
Without a predetermined form, the symbol is constantly evolving, representing a spirit of freedom, creativity, and thinking beyond conventional frameworks. Its ability to adapt and transform into new forms expresses a frontier spirit—the courage to keep challenging the unknown, adapt to new possibilities, and open up new worlds.
